Accredited Higher Education University Selects Blue Hill for Remote Mainframe Services

Blue Hill was selected to provide flexible remote technical systems and database administration support for their IBM Mainframe running z/OS. With an existing project underway to migrate applications off the mainframe over the next three to five years, this University’s immediate requirement was for an experienced IT team to support the production mainframe environment and the remaining applications, as well as supporting its disaster recovery annual exercises.
The University was confident in Blue Hill’s technical skills and long-standing experience in providing z/OS and Datacom support, as well as our knowledge in supporting other higher education clients. They were especially pleased to know that the Blue Hill team who conducted the initial Knowledge Transfer would be the same team supporting the University throughout the engagement, with no hand-off. Integration of Blue Hill technical staff was further bolstered through ServiceDesk handshake alignment, allowing the Client to maintain current mainframe service levels without any interference in workflow. The culture and teamwork of the Blue Hill Delivery Services Team was aligned nicely with the University’s team. This provided the needed level of comfort and trust to ensure a strong partnership in delivering these critical services.
The engagement will last a minimum of three years, while this University is in the midst of replacing their mainframe system architecture. Outsourcing these functional areas to Blue Hill will allow their IT staff to transition from their current mainframe legacy support roles, to learn and help build the new system. Although lowering operating costs was a key consideration, running the day-to-day workloads effectively in the current mainframe environment was critical.
